Getting to Hokkaido By Flight

There are few airports in Hokkaido including Sapporo New Chitose Airport, Asahikawa Airport, and Hakodate Airport. Most international flights have come from Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Manila or Austria. The majority will choose to land in Sapporo New Chitose Airport.
Alternatively, you can choose to transit to Tokyo or other airports in Japan, and then take the domestic flight to Hokkaido. Tokyo-Sapporo is one of the busiest routes in Japan with dozen of flights per day. JAL, ANA, Air Do, Skymark, Vanilla Air, Jetstar provide frequent domestic flights to Hokkaido.
Depend on your Hokkaido itinerary, we recommend New Chitose Airport as your first stop of getting into Hokkaido. The regular one way fares by the conventional airlines are as high as around ¥40,000. From New Chitose Airport to Sapporo City
By Train: JR Rapid trains frequently connected between New Chitose Airport and Sapporo Station with 4 trains per hour. Train fare is ¥1,070 for one way with 35 minutes. Seat reservation at ¥520 is optional but you can simply hook up the train without reservation.
By Bus: Airport buses operate every 15 minutes from New Chitose Airport to Sapporo downtown including Susukino, Odori Park and Sapporo Station. It is a great option, especially for those travelers with accommodation, who are close with the bus stopping point. Single bus trip takes approximately 80 minutes with ¥1,030.
By Taxi: From New Chitose Airport to Sapporo downtown costs around ¥13,000.
By Private Shuttle: For hassle-free airport pick up or return. Good for those travel in a group especially with kids and elderly, consider the private airport shuttle. Single way of airport transfer is about ¥22,000. (More detail click here)
Getting to Hokkaido By Shinkansen / Bullet Train
If your Hokkaido itinerary is chosen to take the JR Tohoku/Hokkaido Shinkansen from Tokyo, most probably Hakodate is your first visited city in Hokkaido.
From Tokyo to Hakodate, the entire one way trip is about 4 hours and costs around ¥22,810 (including seat reservation). From Hakodate, continue exploring to other cities in Hokkaido including Sapporo, Asahikawa or more.
Please take note that seat reservations are mandatory on Hayabusa trains between Tokyo and Hakodate (Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto station).

Getting Around Hokkaido by Bus
